Waterproof Glass Marking

Waterproof Glass Marking

Anyone who has ever drawn a line on a piece of glass and taken it to the saw or grinder knows how frustrating it is to watch the line wash away long before the grinding or cutting is finished. Some glass artists resort to using lip balm or Vaseline over the marker. The risk is that wax and petroleum – mixed with ground glass – packs into the abrasive surface and reduces the effectiveness of the grinding head or cutting blade.
Here is an alternative that uses no wax or petroleum products:
  1. Score the line with a glass cutter (or engraving tool)
  2. Color the score with a permanent marker
  3. Wipe the glass clean
  4. The marker that remains in the score will not come off when grinding or cutting!
